Mardi and Mama

Wow, it’s been a minute. I hate that I keep having to write these condensed recap posts, but life is crazy and I can’t always keep up on here as much as I’d like to. So, here I am!
Since I last wrote, a lot has happened. Probably the biggest thing was Mardi Gras, so I guess that’s where I’ll start with my recap!

Mardi Gras was amazing and crazy and exhausting and everything I could’ve hoped for. I love that I live in a place like New Orleans, to be able to experience these things that I’d never see otherwise. I went to more parades than I can even remember, and got to party for 6 days straight with all my best friends. The amount of beads that I caught is a little ridiculous, and they’re still weighing down my chair (again, no you don’t have to flash to get beads. That’s a myth). I think I’m gonna be cleaning glitter out of my clothes until the end of time, but it’s all worth it. If you ever have the chance to experience Mardi Gras, just realize that it’s probably crazier than you’re expecting. Do your research ahead of time, and get ready for a wild weekend. Here are some photos from my wild weekend!

On Wednesday, after the official Mardi Gras day, my suite and I hopped into a car and headed over to Pensacola Beach. My roommate’s family rented a condo for the weekend and was kind enough to invite us to come with them, so we had a great weekend relaxing and recovering from the madness of Mardi Gras. It was amazing to just lay on the beach and soak up the sun, even if it was a little too cold to actually go in the water most of the time. There was one moment that was a bit more exciting than the rest on this trip, though. One night, we were eating fish at a little dive bar, and my roommate had an allergic reaction. Her throat started to close, and her dad almost had to do the Heimlich to get her breathing again. I’ve never seen an allergic reaction like this before, and she’s never had an allergic reaction like this before, so it was pretty freaky all around. Luckily, she’s fine, and will soon be getting an epi-pen (thank goodness).

This past weekend was my last bit of excitement: my mom came to visit! From March 20-25, she was here in New Orleans. It was absolutely amazing for me to get to see her. Because my only break from school so far has been for Mardi Gras/spring break, I haven’t been home since winter break. My older sister visited the week after I got back to school, but other than that, it’s been a minute since I’ve seen anyone in my family. One of the best parts of having family visit is that I get to do all of the touristy stuff that I’m usually too cool to do, like swamp tours and riverboat cruises. We ate an absurd amount of New Orleans food down in the French Quarter, and I made her try some Tulane-inspired things, like watching the sunset at the fly. Mama left me this morning, and I’m already missing her like crazy. But, I’ll survive, because this semester is flying by. Just a little over a month is left, and it feels like it just started yesterday.

I think that about covers my little life-recap. I’m hoping to post another little snippet of writing–similar to Ceilings–soon, so keep an eye out for that!

Stay tuned for more updates,

xoxo, second sister suzie
