I’m just gonna spit it out right away: I started therapy today! I’ve been going through a lot, and I’ve realized that just taking my meds isn’t quite enough anymore. I’ve been to therapy in the past, when I was in high school, and it gave me a lot of great coping mechanisms, which I’ve been using ever since. But, I’m trying to be true to myself and recognize that it just isn’t enough, and ask for help when I need it. So, I started therapy today!
I can already tell that this was the right decision for me. My therapist is amazing. She’s so kind and welcoming, and I feel as though I can tell her anything (which is basically the whole point here). For those of you who aren’t privy to New Orleans culture, Mardi Gras is on Tuesday, which means the festivities are officially starting. A few parades have been going on on the weekends, but now things are in full swing. There are parades every day and night until we hit Fat Tuesday, and I’m really excited to have a little break from school. I’m also really glad that I got in with a therapist BEFORE this crazy weekend. I feel as though my mind can truly be at ease now, which is really nice.
Despite the fact that I truly have been going through a lot lately, I want to make the point that you don’t need to be struggling in order to see a therapist. Therapy is a great tool, and I wish people would use it more, especially people on a college campus like myself, where it’s completely free for us. As I’ve said, time and time again, I want to normalize having conversations like these. Remember: there is absolutely nothing wrong with utilizing this resource! So, does anyone else here have good experiences with therapy? Tell me about them! Let’s make this a casual topic of conversation. 🙂
