Back to School

Wow, this post is looooooong overdue. As many of you probably already know, I have been back at school in New Orleans since August 24th, with classes officially starting on the 27th. It’s been a little strange to be back in the bayou, but I’m slowly adjusting back to swamp weather. 🙂

My class schedule this semester is pretty rigorous (I’m in 19 credit hours) but I really enjoy the classes I’m in. I’m in two different English classes, including a creative writing class. In the creative writing class, we had to write some poetry, which I’ve never really done before, but I actually really ended up enjoying it. More on that topic coming soon… I’ve also finally officially declared my major as English with a concentration in creative writing, and communications! So I can get used to having to write papers every day… cause that’s about to be the rest of my college career. So far, I am loving my intro communications class, so I think I’m in the right place. I’m also taking a “fundamentals of fashion design” class, and it’s so much fun. Sure, it’s not really relevant to my major or anything… but it’s fun!

It’s been amazing to be back living with my best friends, and I’ve found myself getting closer to new friends as well as old ones. If these first few weeks have been any indication, this semester is about to be amazing. I’ve already gotten back into working at Pj’s, the coffee shop on campus, and I will soon be starting a new work-study job at the architecture library! The search for a work-study job has been pretty stressful and annoying, if we’re being completely honest. It turns out that most places on campus are really bad at getting back to potential student workers, which has not made things easy. But, I’m figuring it out!

I’ve also gotten right back into writing for The Crescent Magazine. I wrote a couple of articles over the summer, 5 Ways to Get Your NOLA Fix When You’re Away for the Summer and 5 Things to do if You’re Spending Your Summer in New Orleans. So, basically the two ends of the summer spectrum. And now I’m getting back into the swing of more consistent writing, my first article of the semester, This Semester in NOLA Festivals, going live today. If you’re in New Orleans over the course of this semester, you’ll have to check a few of these festivals out.

I’m already looking forward to the rest of this semester, because it’s so far off to such a great start. Fingers crossed that it stays this amazing!

Stay tuned for more updates,

xoxo, second sister suzie
